Consumer comments : HP DV9626US PAVILION NOTEBOOK COMPUTER
Review of the shop
Mediocre and time-consuming/non-intuitive interfaces
Pros: Nice screen display properties
Cons: Requires removal of many parasite functionalities
Summary: We ended up with a somewhat overpriced and not totally-stable laptop for our primary purposes of general home use, Office operations, internet usage and some limited gaming. It is a secondary networked machine to a much more powerful and versatile Dell desktop powered by XP and dual Intel core processors. Adjusting to Vista's confusing and contorted re-placement of XP function keys continues to be a major struggle, almost so much as to render that upgrade counterproductive and a mistake. But the AMD Turion processor seems fairly fast and the hardware features of the product work well so far, except the Altec Lansing speakers built into this particular off-the-shelf version are very tinny and poor in fidelity. We stripped off the Office 2007 product that came in stock and replaced it with an install of Office 2003. We may at some point remove Vista and replace it with XP, perhaps sooner rather than later. The repeated confirm-each-operation-twice popups are so disruptive as to make it an inefficient product to use on any regular basis for many programs that we would hope to use on it.
